New Contest Adds to the Fun of St. Kitts Carnival
The National Carnival, celebrated every year in St. Kitts and Nevis in late December and early January, is a feast of colour and sound for the senses. High spirited dancers in bright and vibrant costumes shake and shimmy, happy music fills the air, and the celebrations go on late into the night. There are parades, special events, competitions and much more. For those who own St. Kitts real estate or are frequent visitors, the Carnival is one of the highlights of the year and a great perk of living on this beautiful island.
This year, a new event has been added to the festivities at the Carnival. It is a competition known as “King ah de Tents”, where ten calypso musicians will compete for the title of King in a musical showdown. Calypso music is a traditional form, originating in the West African oral history tradition, and it usually contains social commentary. It is usually presented in a comical and witty tone, and can be quite amusing. A calypso musician is known as a calypsonian. The competition will promote the art form of calypso music, which is a funny, upbeat and entertaining way to get a message across. After the musicians have performed live at Carnival, the public will vote online to decide the winner.
Those who own St. Kitts real estate and live on the island can listen to the competition on the radio or follow it on the local television station. The winners will receive cash prizes and trophies!
The celebratory party atmosphere of St. Kitts, exemplified by events such as this, is one of the reasons why many people choose to invest in St. Kitts real estate. On this fun-loving island there is always an excuse to have a good time!
